About

From The Sialaris Family

Alyssa Sialaris was a fierce student-athlete, accomplished scholar, and loyal friend who passed away unexpectedly at a young age. The Alyssa E. Sialaris ’13 Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to keep her memory alive at Whittier College and inspire generations of kinesiology and nutrition science students to pursue their goals with a similar passion.

Alyssa’s family and members of the Whittier College community created this fund with a goal of raising $50,000 by June 2018, this is the base amount required to establish an endowed scholarship. Alyssa fell in love with "Everything Whittier" and had extremely special bonds with her professors, coaches, friends, and teammates. She was an All-SCIAC, All-Region and All-American performer as an outside hitter for the Whittier College volleyball team and a thrower for the track & field team.

She is remembered as the type of person that “added” to every situation, whether it was getting teammates pumped for an important game, joking with friends at the Campus Inn, or adding color to a class discussion. She was an active member of the community and was proud of her work at a local elementary school where she volunteered over 200 hours running a physical education program and working with children in a second language reading program. Alyssa would be thrilled to know that through her passing she is still able to be a source of support, inspiration, and hope for other students.

We would like to make something positive come out of the tragedy of losing our daughter. By reaching this $50,000 base goal, we will forever keep Alyssa’s memory alive while providing a yearly scholarship for other like-minded students. – Gus and Sandy Sialaris
